Today I paid a visit to my private bookshelf–not my Kindle collection or the general living room bookshelf, but the one in my bedroom for the books I’ve recently read that have been favorites of mine. Space over on the private shelf is limited, you see, so I had to do some housekeeping and kick some books off. I kept books I was likely to read again or at least refer back to in the near future, but nothing’s permanent. Here’s what stayed and went:
Keepers:
- War and Peace (Tolstoy)
- Eat, Pray, Love (Gilbert)
- And Then There Were None (Christie)
- Ice (Durst)
- The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle (Avi)
- The Neverending Story (Ende)
- A Game of Thrones (Martin)
- The Silver Chair (Lewis)
- Little Women (Alcott)
- The Green Mile (King)
- Self-Portraits (Dazai)
- The Setting Sun (Dazai)
- Blue Bamboo (Dazai)
- No Longer Human (Dazai) –I’m not obsessed, I swear
- Divergent (Roth)
- Snow White and the Huntsman (Blake et al.)
- A Series of Unfortunate Events 10-13 (Snicket)
Stashed:
- Shutter Island (Lehane)
- Death on the Nile (Christie)
- A Clash of Kings (Martin)
- The Historian (Kostova)
- That Hideous Strength (Lewis)
Do you have a private shelf? What would you keep/stash?
-The Story Addict

I don’t really have a private bookshelf. I have a shelf with private books, hiding in the corner behind some romance novels but as for a private bookshelf? That’s my library. I love to re-read and it hurts to give up a book.
Not saying I keep everything but it’s close.
Nice one
It’s always a difficult decision for me whether to re-read a book or read a new one. Re-reading sometimes feels like giving up a new story, while reading a new story that just isn’t as good as one you’ve already read also feels like a loss. Sometimes you just have to go with your gut!
I am due to go through my private shelves, and soon! My keepers tend to be by author – John Sandford, Lee Child, Anne Rice, Laurell K. Hamilton, Robin McKinley, etc. I saw a pic on a blog of an old ladder being used as a bookshelf (hung on the wall horizontally), so now I’ve figured out how to EXPAND my private stash, despite the fact that my guest room has slanted ceilings. Yay!
Haha, that’s original! I’ve seen a bunch of nifty shelves around, some twisted and others built into the wall. I try to keep my set small and swap out new books for old, but I’m sure it’ll grow with time
Have fun with it!
