An Indie Film: The Underwater Realm

underwater realmIt’s rare that I come across something so extraordinary on Youtube in storytelling that I have to share it on this blog. I’m sure there are hundreds of gems out there, but out of all the clutter, when you really come across something outstanding, it blows your mind.

As of late, I’ve had a bit of an obsession with mermaids. I think they’re cool, okay? Some say they’re “the next big thing” and Stephenie Meyer is writing mermaids and yadda yadda. Who knows. I have a novel in mind, but it’s a bit more twisted than a mermaid tale.

So, naturally, when I saw the poster for this, I was intrigued. When I saw the trailer, I was astounded. And after I watched this indie film, I was amazed. These guys pulled together stuff from scratch, got support on Kickstarter, and came together to create a film with effects that are often avoided in film because of how difficult they are to make.

The story follows mer-encounters throughout different moments in history. Provided how short these are (and free!) keep in mind that the filming here isn’t a walk in the park. And the story behind it is actually breathtaking.

If you enjoyed these mini-films, please support these guys in whatever way you can. They are amazing and so talented. I am just proud that the label “indie” can bring something like this to life, and I believe that’s what indie authors should strive to achieve as well.

  1. Very nicely done. And for some reason I’ve been thinking a lot about mermaids lately, so this hit the spot.

The very first shot in the trailer could be anywhere in Ireland :)
